Miniature Optical Transceivers for Ethernet and Fibre Channel Applications from Focus EDL

Focus EDL has announced a series of miniature optical transceivers designed to provide designers of network equipment with a high performance, ultra small solution for Ethernet and fibre channel applications. Produced by Stratos Optical, a product line of Emerson Network Power Connectivity Solutions, the RJ series provides a complete transceiver module in an RJ-45 package.

The RJ Series consists of 850nm solutions for the fibre channel and Gigabit Ethernet markets, and a 1310nm product to cater for long-wave Gigabit Ethernet requirements. According to Stratos, the transceivers are fully compliant with IEEE Ethernet and ANSI fibre channel standards.

Operating from a single 3.3V supply, the devices are available in surface mount or through hole versions and are compatible with wave solder and aqueous washable systems.

Says Geoff Philpot, Focus EDL’s Managing Director. “We see an increasing demand for smaller, lighter and more powerful transceivers for applications where overall equipment size matters and these RJ-45 packaged devices will create a lot of interest among system designers”.
