Mainstream Network Appliance with 7 Ethernet Ports and Lanner 8800 Module Slot

Lanner Electronics Inc., a leader in OEM and ODM network appliances, today announced the release of the FW-8755, a 1U rack mount, Intel CPU based appliance equipped with 7 Ethernet ports and a Lanner Ethernet Module slot. This platform targets the mainstream inline network security segment, focusing on applications such as UTM and Firewall.

While classified as a mainstream network appliance, the FW-8755 offers high-end customization with the addition of a Lanner 8800 series Ethernet Module. Usually reserved for only the enterprise series of appliances, these 10 different Lanner modules offer 2 to 8 LAN ports with copper, fiber and bypass options. In combination to the 7 onboard Ethernet ports, the FW-8755 can have a maximum of 15 LAN ports.

Onboard there are 6 Gigabit Ethernet ports and 1 FE port, controlled by the Intel 822574L and the Intel 82562 chipsets. Each pair of the 6 GbE ports support bypass. The additional RJ45 port can be used as an FE or as an IPMI/IPKVM port for in-band management- allowing system administrators to monitor and manage the platform through an internet connection.

For the CPU, the FW-8755 has a LGA775 socket which is compatible to the Intel Core 2 Quad, 2 Duo, Pentium DC, Celeron DC, and the Celeron Processor 440. Two DIMM sockets support up to 8GB DDR2 memory, and there is space for 2 x 2.5” hard drives or a single 3.5” hard drive. There is also a CompactFlash socket for flash storage. Additionally, the FW-8755 features a front LCM panel, dual USB and a RJ45 Console port.
