Combining LEGO MINDSTORMS with the complexity of the automation industry, COPA-DATA launched the zenon Challenge 2014 in April. Closing on 16th October, there is still time for late comers to test their creative and engineering capabilities.

The zenon Challenge invites engineers to use COPA-DATA's ergonomic HMI/SCADA software zenon to control LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 creations. Judged on project design, usability and overall creativity, teams are actively encouraged to be as innovative as possible. These three criteria will account for 40% of the total team mark, another 40% from public online votes and 20% from completing goals called 'steps to success' along the way.

Winners will receive €1,000 for a zenon Challenge party and a Sony Action Cam. Second place will earn a Windows 8.1 tablet and third prize is a Sony Action Cam.

Beth Ragdale, Partner Manager, COPA-DATA UK, comments: "With the launch of zenon 7.11 earlier this year we are really excited to see what new ideas the teams can come up. In 2012 the standard of entries was very high and thus we're looking forward to seeing how the teams will take full advantage of the EV3 features that are now fully integrated in the zenon Logic Editor. This provides an enhanced environment in which the software can run.”
