Lantronix today announced its VIP Access remote access software has been integrated into 32-bit SuperH processors from Renesas Technology Corp., based in Tokyo, Japan. Made available to the Japanese market by Nissin Systems Co., Ltd, headquartered in Kyoto, the software is being offered as the new, de facto remote-access standard for the Renesas SuperH Family.
Used in conjunction with Lantronix’ ManageLinx network access and management equipment, the software offers a highly secure and efficient remote access solution via the Internet, even for equipment located behind firewalls.

The Renesas SuperH Family is in wide use with industrial and operational devices and Renesas believes that the market for remote maintenance solutions for such devices will increase greatly over time. The VIP Access middleware was designed to meet these growing needs, to develop applications for tasks as diverse as remote maintenance and energy conservation. VIP Access-enabled Renesas SuperH processors will work in conjunction with existing network management equipment and software to allow highly secure, easy-to-use, remote access and management of host devices behind firewalls.

Customers already using the Renesas SuperH Family of products will receive the following benefits from the new remote access software:

* Reduced costs: Since the remote access software is free, licensing costs are eliminated and a low monthly subscription activates the service.
* Time and cost reductions: Until now, it was necessary to have staff on-site to conduct routine maintenance of industrial and operations machinery. Now, users can upgrade firmware, conduct maintenance and other tasks remotely, saving personnel and maintenance costs as well as greatly reducing downtime.
* Safety and security: The software program allows users to conduct remote maintenance on their equipment securely via the Internet from any place in the world. This helps ensure security by encrypting the transmission data between the user and the machine(s) in question, as well as including a number of Internet-specific security features.

“I believe that tying in the SuperH Family to ManageLinx VIP Access to allow remote maintenance, even for overseas equipment, will dramatically improve operating potential for all industrial instruments,” said Satoshi Masuda, chief engineer, System Solution Product Marketing Department, Renesas Technology Corp. “The SuperH Family is used on many types of operational machinery today. This software allows for inexpensive and safe remote maintenance, which will bring a great deal of benefit to its users.”

“Lantronix, working alongside Nissin Systems, has completed the period of development of VIP Access remote access software for the very popular SuperH Family,” said Lantronix Japan sales manager, Chiho Ariga. “This new feature allows for much greater efficiency in the use of the SuperH Family of products and will also have the benefit of making them more eco-friendly. Remote access technology is a big winner for all parties.”

“We see VIP Access as being an emerging technology capability for the growing need to remotely access equipment,” said Paul Pishal, VP marketing at Lantronix. “We are very pleased to work with industry leaders like Renesas and Nissin Systems on this exciting new application.”
