3M Visual Systems has announced an interactive model to its Digital Media System 800 Series of wall-mounted projection devices for classrooms, boardrooms and training centres. The DMS810 features Vikuiti Super Close Projection technology from 3M and a built-in digital annotation pod to create a fully-integrated interactive system. It complements the existing DMS815 interactive model with detachable pod, offering an increased level of flexibility in varied installation environments. The DMS800 Series of wall-mounted projector devices are designed to ‘hang’ above pull-down screens, dry erase boards, digital boards or even smooth, light coloured walls. An adjustable ‘telescopic’ arm allows presenters to project images from a 50 inch to 85 inch diagonal, making it ideal for use within architecturally challenged environments. This design not only avoids difficult ceiling-mounted installation and eliminates any untidy cables, but also minimises lamp glare and shadow interference when the presenter is working in front of the screen.

“The health and safety implications of using projection equipment is a long standing issue in environments such as classrooms, lecture theatres and meeting rooms,” said Paul Gardner, Business Development Manager, 3M Visual Systems. “When 3M first introduced the DMS800 Series at BETT 2006, the world’s largest educational technology event, the response from the teaching community was immense. When they stood facing the screen there was no interference with the projection beam and there was no dazzling bright light in their eyes when they turned around. This was the answer they’d been waiting for.”

The DMS810 all-in-one interactive model takes the functionality of the 800 Series to the next level with its ability to turn almost any surface into a digital whiteboard or large interactive computer display. It has an annotation pod built-in to the front of the base unit and comes with a digital presentation pen and easy-to-use annotation software.

To optimise its interactive performance the annotation pod has a number of set performance parameters. As long as the top edge of the projection surface measures 0.5 - 1 inch in thickness (distance from the wall) the ‘active’ interactive area will be between 60 inches and 82 inches. If the surface is greater than 1 inch thick, a spacer is required to position the base of the DMS810 a sufficient distance away from the wall so the pod has a clear line of sight to the screen surface.

Paul Gardner continued, “The DMS810 is an extremely exciting product for 3M and is eagerly awaited by many of our customers. It is a truly unique, differentiated and price competitive interactive projector capable of transforming even the most challenging classroom and meeting spaces into comfortable, ultra-modern and fully functional environments. It is ideal for training, brainstorming and group participation purposes in all types of organisations from schools to universities, small businesses to corporates, local authorities to the military, and the emergency services to hospitals.”

The DMS810 features Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology, is rated at 1500 ANSI lumens and has a native aspect ratio of 4:3, 16:9. It has an integrated 40 Watt Stereo Surround Sound TruSurround XT system, Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) and comprehensive input capability, which allows for a wide variety of input peripherals such as PCs, digital cameras, DVDs, or video conferencing systems.
