IAR Systems today announced it has signed a contract with leading Japanese semiconductor vendor Renesas Technology Corp. to develop a version of IAR Embedded Workbench for Renesas SH-2A core microcontrollers of the SuperH family.
IAR Embedded Workbench is a set of development tools for building and debugging embedded applications using assembler, C, and C++. It will bring high-performance code generation and advanced debugging capabilities to embedded designs incorporating SuperH microcontrollers. Applications include the automotive, industrial, and consumer appliances fields.

Stefan Skarin, CEO of IAR Systems, says: “We are honored to be selected by Renesas to provide development tools for the SuperH family. This contract shows that even in today’s harsh market conditions, chip vendors prioritize investments in attractive development tools to secure support for their architectures. We are confident that the performance our tools bring to the SuperH family will contribute to its continued success.”

The agreement extends a long-established relationship between Renesas and IAR Systems. Today, IAR Systems supports most Renesas microcontroller architectures, including the new RX CPU, and the addition of the SuperH family further emphasizes the company’s position as Renesas key third-party tool vendor for IAR Systems.
