The Scottish based TEV Project, a ground-breaking concept to transform the way we travel, has been short-listed for a major international design award. The Spark Transport Awards are part of a series of eight competitions created to promote great design and designers from across the world. The transport category includes all modes of transportation design, from vehicles to transit stations, aircraft to electronics.

Caroline Jones Carrick, who is based in Prestwick, has made it to the final jury selection phase with The TEV (Tracked Electric Vehicle) Project, a new transportation infrastructure.

Working alongside her US-based inventor father, Will Jones, who devised the revolutionary concept, Caroline created The TEV Project, which involves congestion-busting road networks capable of continually recharging self-driving electric vehicles on ‘tracks’ that could handle up to ten times the capacity of traditional roads.

The open-source project has already attracted international attention, with The TEV Project due to travel to America to present its driverless concept to the Exploratory Advanced Research Program, a major infrastructure event organised by the Department of Transport FHWA.

Caroline commented, “We are delighted to be short-listed for such an acclaimed award and honoured to be considered alongside many other inspiring transport designs. The award is testament to the strength of feeling around the world amongst those choosing to think differently about how we meet transport and infrastructure challenges. With exponential growth in road vehicle use around the world anticipated over the next 10-15 years, TEV utilises technology available now, to offer a radical, innovative solution.”

“Fundamentally, being a parent is my inspiration for working on this project. I want future generations to have transportation that is safer, greener, more efficient and makes the most of the fantastic vehicle technologies developed in recent years. If we don’t do something now, our children will be forced to live with the consequences.”

Judging for the Spark Transport Award will take place on 7th November in New York City. The winners will be announced shortly afterwards.
