Greenpeace ‘likes’ Facebook’s 100% clean energy-powered data centre

Facebook has announced that it will build a data centre in Ireland, which it will power with 100% renewable energy. Commenting on the announcement, Greenpeace’s Senior IT Analyst Gary Cook said:

“Facebook’s data centre will make our shares and likes greener and it will do the same for Ireland’s power grid. Facebook deserves credit for its steadfast progress as it drives toward its goal of 100% renewable power.”

“Facebook became the first internet company to commit to becoming 100% renewably powered in 2011, and has matched its growth with more renewable energy ever since. Facebook’s leadership has helped set a high bar for other internet giants. Every announcement of a major data centre, anywhere in the world, should now come with a promise to power that facility with 100% renewable energy.”
