The government funded Renewable Heating Incentive (RHI) scheme, which marked its first year anniversary on 9th April 2015, has been praised for the success by Green Square. More than 25,000 households in Britain have benefitted from pay-outs to subsidise the installation of eco-friendly home heating systems since the programme launched a year ago, that figure continues to rise according to the latest recordings.

The initiative, which is run by the office of gas and electricity markets, Ofgem, has committed to paying out £323m over the lifetime of the scheme. With close to £110,000 distributed in year one on domestic applicants and registered social landlords alone, there is plenty more funding for homeowners to benefit from in the future should they opt for renewable energy alternatives.

The company supplies a range of biomass boilers, solar thermal panels, ground source heat pumps and air source heat pumps which are eligible for RHI contributions and are estimated to cut traditional gas, electricity and oil fuel bills by half.

Richard Hiblen, Director, Green Square, says: “As a country we are certainly moving in the right direction. The RHI scheme is evidence that the powers that be are acknowledging how imperative it is that we adopt long-term sustainable solutions to the reality of diminishing fossil fuels.”

“Homeowners are starting to realise the benefits not only from an environmental point of view but also from a financial and interior design perspective. At Green Square, we are very much an advocate of the RHI scheme and welcome many more years of renewable energy contributions for home owners and small business that require our services.”

According to the latest figures published by Ofgem in February 2015, South West England has seen the greatest uptake since the scheme launched at 4,175 applications; London has seen the least at just 308 applicants. The fastest rate of growth is evident in Yorkshire and the Humber.

Richard added: “With renewable energy, it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ solution, however, for those living in inner cities there are options emerging as the front runners for the typical urban home. We hope to see an increase in uptake of the RHI and renewable energy installation in London and the other major cities in the near future.”
