Fujitsu Microelectronics and Advanced Digital Design S.A, a world leader in the development of SoCs for communication over Power Line and solutions for AMM, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop products for the Automatic Meter Management (AMM) market.
By the terms of the agreement, FME and ADD will jointly promote PRIME (Powerline Related Intelligent Metering Evolution) based OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing) devices, entirely designed by ADD, to the metering market world wide. The first device was developed based on Fujitsu’s manufacturing technology, and will be available as samples by Q4 2009 with mass production planned during Q1 2010. A comprehensive roadmap of devices for OFDM-based meters has also been agreed.

“This agreement with ADD adds a new product line to FME’s portfolio, extending our capabilities to address the special requirements of the industrial arena,” said Wolf Fronauer, Marketing Manager, Industrial at FME.

“Automatic meter reading is expected to grow rapidly, bringing with it challenging requirements in terms of power consumption, communication robustness and security features. The agreement with Fujitsu will allow customers to take advantage of a robust and field-proven solution developed by us in combination with Fujitsu’s leading-edge manufacturing technologies and logistic services,” said Alfredo Sanz, founder of ADD.
