Axis Network Technology has announced the first public demonstration of Xilinx Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD) technology on an Axis Digital Radio platform. The innovative system architecture used by Axis provides the capacity, performance and flexibility needed to rapidly develop and deploy advanced digital radio algorithms, such as DPD and CFR. The platform additionally supports the emerging network gigabit interfaces such as CPRI and OBSAI, all within the same digital radio platform. The new Xilinx DPD solution that is being shown works across a range of air interface standards, from existing 2G/3G standards to the latest OFDMA-based access protocols, such as WiMAX and LTE.
The demonstration will take place at the GSMA Mobile World Congress (formerly 3GSM), which will be held in Barcelona on 11 – 14 February 2008. Axis digital radio technology will be presented on the Xilinx stand, number 1E47 in Hall 1, throughout the show.

In addition to supporting Xilinx with their exciting demonstration of OFDMA solutions, Axis has a complete integrated RRH already moving into production for 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz WiMAX applications, offering 2 Tx MIMO at 4W or 8W with OBSAI or CPRI interfaces as standard. Axis’ capability combines expertise in RF technology with digital and baseband design experience, and this allows it to deliver fully operational end-to-end systems direct to the OEM. Its other products include high-efficiency TDD and FDD RF modules, for the 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz radio bands, and 2- and 4-channel digital radio modules for 400MHz to 4GHz.

Mobile World Congress is an ideal opportunity for Axis to showcase its digital radio products alongside the Xilinx FPGA and IP technology. From a sound base in WiMAX technology we are driving towards LTE products and this OFDMA demonstration continues our valuable forward looking relationship with Xilinx, comments Simon Mellor, CEO of Axis. Axis designs are targeted at delivering fully operational end-to-end LTE and WIMAX systems direct to the wireless OEM, thus reducing both their costs and the operating costs for the operators.
