Fairchild Semiconductor Opens Global Power Resource™ Design Center in South America to Address Critical Markets

Brazil Design Center to assist customers in the region by offering on-site design solutions for their automotive, lighting, motor drive, telecom and consumer electronics applications

Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) has expanded its Global Power Resource™ design centers to nine worldwide with the addition of a facility in São Paulo, Brazil. This new design center responds to the burgeoning high-technology markets in South America. Fairchild is focusing on the South American region, projected by WSTS to have a 14 percent growth rate in 2006 and nearly 10 percent in 2007, to support its manufacturing customers in the consumer electronic and appliance, lighting, automotive and telecom markets. The design center is staffed by electrical engineers with extensive design expertise and a keen understanding of the application requirements for more compact, energy-efficient, high functionality electronic applications.

Fairchild’s design center in Brazil, as well as all of the company’s centers worldwide, are able to respond to our customers’ demands for ready-made designs that they can take to market as quickly as possible, said Kevin Parmenter, senior director, Field Applications Engineering, Americas. We are equipped to offer the top electronics manufacturers in the region Fairchild’s power optimizing design expertise backed by a leading-edge product portfolio of analog, power discrete and standard products whose breadth and depth is unparalleled in the industry.

With energy at a premium, coupled with the emergence of new standards for energy efficiency, it’s critically important that our customers have access to power systems experts who can deliver innovative techniques and products to confront these challenges, said Carlos Alvarez, regional manager, Latin America. As The Power Franchise®, Fairchild is uniquely equipped to assist application engineers who access our Brazil Design Center, in the optimization of system power in even their most demanding applications.

Fairchild has eight other design centers in Germany, Korea, Taiwan, China and the US. These centers are part of the company’s Global Power Resource initiative, offering not only system power design but also online design tools, evaluation boards, tutorials and joint research and development labs. To enhance and broaden support for its customers, Fairchild has integrated resources on its website with design, selection and educational tools for customers to access and optimize designs in real time. The goal of the Global Power Resource is to solve manufacturers’ design challenges while helping them speed their product’s time-to-market.
