Digi Provides Critical Wireless Communication Infrastructure for Better Place, a Market Leader in Electric Vehicle Networks and Services

Digi International has announced that Better Place is using its Digi TransPort® 6410 high-speed cellular router to connect Electric Vehicle (EV) docking stations to the Better Place electric car network in Israel. This enables energy demand management capabilities by allowing utilities to minimize charging requirements during peak electricity consumption hours.

“We are developing the infrastructure and intelligent network to deliver a range of driver services that optimize energy use, and Digi is making it easy for us to extend our network directly to the EV docking station,” said Greg Stein, VP, Global Supply Chain, Better Place. “Digi’s high-speed cellular router provides the critical communication infrastructure between the docking station and our network allowing for greater demand management capabilities.”

“Substantial investments are being made in technology, manufacturing, infrastructure and market development to drive EV innovation and consumer demand,” said Larry Kraft, senior vice president of global sales and marketing, Digi International. “These changes will affect both how we drive and how we interact with the Smart Grid. New communication infrastructure is necessary to establish the equivalent of the 20th century gas station, and with our wireless communication technology we are excited to help make mass EV deployment a reality.”
