Cypress TrueTouch Solution Drives Touchschreens for HTC’s Hot New HTC 7 Surround And HTC 7 Mozart Phones

Cypress Semiconductor announced that HTC has selected the TrueTouch solution from Cypress to implement the touchscreens in the hot new HTC 7 Surround and HTC 7 Mozart mobile phones. Both of the new smartphones are based on the Windows® Phone 7 Series recently introduced by Microsoft.

The HTC 7 Surround phone offers a 3.8-inch, WVGA, multi-touch screen with pinch-to-zoom capability. It boasts a unique, slide-out speaker that delivers Dolby Mobile™ and SRS WOW HD™ virtual surround sound for a great multi-media experience. The HTC 7 Surround is available from AT&T.

The HTC 7 Mozart phone offers a 3.7-inch, WVGA, multi-touch screen, also with pinch-to-zoom capability. Crafted from a single piece of brushed aluminum — it’s a phone that’s slim, smart and strong. The HTC 7 Mozart also offers high fidelity, virtual surround sound with SRS WOW HD™. The HTC 7 Mozart is available from T-Mobile.

HTC chose TMA340 TrueTouch controllers, which offer Cypress’s latest-generation performance. The devices have an integrated analog sensing engine for the industry’s fastest and most accurate touchscreen user experience. This responsiveness allows tracking of multiple fingers simultaneously with precise x-y locations and without user delays or problems with erroneous “ghost” responses. The devices also offer Cypress’s legendary noise immunity and very low power consumption – an ideal combination for today’s smartphone market.

The TrueTouch solution is natively supported in the Windows Phone 7 Series platform. This support allowed HTC to implement its touchscreen interfaces without the need for developing external drivers or custom software development, speeding time-to-market.

“It’s exciting to add HTC as a key partner in our mobile handset touchscreen business. Both of our companies are committed to bringing world-class technology to consumers,” said Norm Taffe, executive vice president of Cypress’s Consumer and Computation Division. “And we’re very pleased to see Windows Phone 7 devices with TrueTouch available on the market. Developments such as these validate our strategy of offering the market’s most comprehensive, leading-edge set of touchscreen solutions.”
