Contactless smart cards and dualway interfaces to be demonstrated at Cartes 2007

Renesas, in partnership with some of its customers, is making a series of presentations at Cartes 2007 (13-15th November, Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibtion Centre, France) that will describe successful applications of secure, contactless smart cards. The company will also participate in the World Summit and will announce a new product family that has been developed for contactless and dualway applications.

This year, Japan is the Country of Honour at Cartes. The smart card market in Japan is experiencing over 30% growth per annum, both by volume and value. What distinguishes the Japanese market from the others is that 40% of the smart cards delivered are contactless and dualway interface cards. The main applications are e-money and e-ticketing. By comparison, within Europe contactless and dualway card deployments are under 10%. In the last 12 months, Renesas has delivered over 30 million units of a new generation secure chip for contactless applications, which is making the company the number one world leading supplier in this area.

The presentations will include one on the FeliCa system, Japan’s contactless, multi-application security system made by NTT Do Co Mo. FeliCa Networks and Renesas Technology will deliver the presentation Wednesday 14th November from 11:00 to 12:00 (Room 405).
