Cogiscan is pleased to announce the issuance of patent 11/547,728 Closed-Loop Reel Setup Verification and Traceability. This patent is the latest in a series of Cogiscan patents previously issued for different aspects of Track Trace and Control technology.

In this specific case the patent covers the use of RFID tags to identify reels of electronic components, along with antennas and readers embedded in storage locations, feeder setup stations, feeder trolleys and placement machines. This invention completely eliminates the need for manual intervention for data entry during the manufacturing data process. With this invention it is no longer necessary for an operator to scan barcode labels on a reel of components. This enables a fully-automated and error-proof solution for component/feeder setup validation, real-time inventory control and component lot traceability.

André Corriveau, Co-President of Cogiscan commented on the new patent: “We have been working on specific applications of RFID technology for the electronics manufacturing industry for more than 12 years now. We have made a lot of progress; however, we feel that this is only the beginning. Using RFID Smart Labels or reusable tags on reels of components is clearly the way that the industry will be moving forward in the coming years and we will continue to lead the way with our network of strategic partners.”
