picoChip has announced that it has been nominated as a double finalist at the Wireless Broadband Innovation (WBI) Awards 2006. picoChip is in contention for both Most Innovative Wireless Broadband Company and Best WiMAX / Wireless Broadband Product award categories. This follows last week¹s announcement that it won Frost & Sullivan¹s prestigious 2006 Semiconductors Industry Innovation & Advancement of the Year Award.
The Wireless Broadband Innovation Awards are the hotly contested independent
awards for users and service providers of wireless broadband worldwide. The
awards recognize leadership, innovation and excellence in wireless broadband
development and deployment.

picoChip provides software defined radio solutions to the key challenges of
cost, development time and flexibility for the next generation of wireless
systems. The company¹s multi-core processors deliver a world-beating
price/performance combination. Uniquely, the company also delivers
complete, standard-compliant reference designs for UMTS (HSDPA, upgradeable
to HSUPA) and WiMAX/WiBRO (both 802.16d and 802.16e, with support for AAS
and MIMO). WiMAX systems using picoChip are available from Airspan, Intel,
Ericsson, Nortel, Marconi and a number of other manufacturers. picoChip
technology is also being used to develop other advanced wireless protocols
such as EVDO, 802.20 and TD-SCDMA, and in 4G research.

The WBI Award categories cover excellence in service provision; in
enterprise deployment by the end-user; in product development; and personal
and corporate achievement. An independent judging panel will select the
winners, who will be announced on May 17th at the gala dinner and awards
ceremony at the Café Royal, London, UK.
