COPS is a proprietary technology, developed by Celcite, that helps wireless carriers remotely manage their networks, and in doing so dramatically reduces the need for engineers to travel to cell sites to diagnose and fix network problems. The COPS software enables carriers to pinpoint any trouble spots where problems such as dropped calls, noisy interference and network degradation are occurring. COPS can assess many of these situations automatically, thus saving the engineer and the telecom company time and money, and saving the environment from the excess carbon dioxide emissions that would result from this unnecessary travel.
Based on the current deployment of COPS, and turnkey projects accomplished using COPS Enabled Services, Celcite estimates it has eliminated over 700 tons of carbon emissions in one year. The company projects that these carbon savings will grow to 1,650 tons per year over the next 12 months. To offset the equivalent carbon footprint would require over 50,000 twenty-five year old maple trees.
Rahul Sharma, CEO of Celcite, commented, “Carriers can rapidly see the financial benefits that result from using COPS to manage their networks, and from detecting wireless network problems using its Automatic Intelligent Correlation feature, but now they have official affirmation that by doing so they are promoting environmental savings too.”
Celcite was founded 7 years ago by Rahul Sharma, a 23-year wireless industry veteran, and COPS was developed by the company’s Technology Solutions Group, led by CTO Ajay Khanna, who has been with Celcite since it was founded and has over 15 years experience in the industry.
