With UTC Swindon’s 2015/16 student recruitment drive in full swing, applications are three times as high as those received at the end of January 2014. The Young Engineers charity has also recognised UTC Swindon as one of the top schools in the country for nurturing students.

Young Engineers encourages young people to study STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) subjects. Its recognition demonstrates that UTC Swindon has become one of the UK’s top 15 secondary schools, despite being open for only five months. UTC Swindon caters for 600 students aged 14 to 19, providing courses for young people who aspire to a career in engineering. Students at the college can gain the skills necessary across all sectors of the engineering industries.

UTC Swindon has hosted two open days in its £10m state-of-the-art facility since the start of this academic year. They gave prospective students and parents the opportunity to discover all that UTC Swindon has to offer. Two more open days are planned at UTC Swindon’s Bristol Street site on 18th April and 20th June.

Angela Barker-Dench, Principal, UTC Swindon, commented: “It’s a thrill to be inundated with applications from local students. Clearly, young people understand the growing need for engineers in the UK. UTC Swindon’s profile has grown substantially since September. It’s already renowned for the excellent and unique education it provides - and that’s reflected in the volume of applications we’re receiving and the welcome recognition from Young Engineers.”
