ACAL Semiconductors today announced that they have signed a franchise agreement to partner with SiliconSystems™ Inc, a world leader in advanced storage technology engineered exclusively for the Enterprise System OEM market, to provide Solid-State Disc (SSD) storage systems for customers in the UK.

SiliconSystems’ advanced solid-state storage products are used in applications which require high availability, multi-year product lifecycles, a small mechanical footprint, low power consumption and compatibility with embedded operating systems. They offer a secure and robust alternative to conventional storage systems such as Flash cards, Flash drives and rotating drives in industrial, medical, military, telecom/datacom products, and in interactive kiosks such as voting booths and point-of-sale terminals.

Based on patented and patent-pending technologies, all SiliconSystems’ SiliconDrive SSD storage systems integrate PowerArmor™ and SiSMART™ which work together to virtually eliminate storage system failures due to power disturbances and to accurately forecast drive usable life. Advanced storage security is provided by SiliconDrive Secure™ that provides a comprehensive range of user-selectable features to protect application data and software IP from theft, corruption, and accidental or malicious overwrites.

SiliconSystems’ products reduce the total cost of ownership by providing a scalable platform which is compatible with current and previous product generations. This eliminates unplanned upgrades and provides OEMs with the flexibility to choose the optimum time to upgrade, rather than be forced to requalify their storage system due to technology advancements made by storage suppliers.

ACAL Semiconductors’ Managing Director, Steve Carr, explained, “The addition of SiliconSystems to our linecard widens the range of storage solutions that we can provide. This allows us to offer an alternative solution for embedded applications using Single-Board Computers (SBCs) and processor modules where the need for absolute robustness, and the ability to withstand vibration and shock, can rule out the use of conventional storage products.”

Michael J Hajeck, CEO at SiliconSystems added, “SiliconSystems’ advanced storage technology complements ACAL’s proven ability to provide exceptional levels of technical application support to their broad customer base in the UK. Fundamental in our decision to partner with ACAL was their embedded and networking product expertise that helps customers address the real-world issues involved in bringing cost-effective and innovative products to market quickly and efficiently.”
