IDT has announced its high-density, 20-Mbit search accelerator – a high-performance, low power, cost-effective packet header processing solution for large table support in enterprise, metro- and carrier-class switches and routers. The 20-Mbit device from IDT delivers an unprecedented search performance of one billion searches per second enabling customers to solve complex network challenges such as quad-play ready network applications, increasing security and access control, and support of broader address spaces, while still maintaining high availability bandwidth for both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic.
Equipment providers that implemented the 5- or 10-Mbit search accelerators from IDT can easily adopt the IDT 20-Mbit device because it is both pin and software compatible with the lower density options, enabling customers to preserve their hardware and software investments. The new device is strongly supported by a diverse ecosystem of network processor and Ethernet switch vendors who have adopted the unique interface from IDT to ensure seamless interoperability. And, as with the lower density devices that came before it, the 20-Mbit search accelerator comes with a highly-integrated software package and evaluation system that enables easy programming and early testing. This reduces implementation costs, shortens time to market, and protects the end-user’s software investment.

In response to strict system-level availability and uptime requirements from leading service providers, the new high density device implements enhanced error detection and correction (ECC). As with its lower density cousins, ECC is used to ensure data integrity while providing the most reliable search solution in the market. To ensure the thermal requirements of customers are met, the 20-Mbit device also offers advanced power-saving features such as dynamic database management and iterative entry searching. These techniques work in tandem to selectively reduce the number of entries being searched during table look-ups to reduce power consumption by up to 75 percent.
