Rugged multiradio module supports WiFi & Bluetooth

Suitable for demanding IoT, industrial, vehicle, medical and security applications, u-blox has introduced the ODIN-W160 rugged multiradio module. Supporting dual-band WiFi 2.4 and 5GHz (U-NII bands 1, 2, 2e, 3) and dual-mode Bluetooth v4.0, the device extends battery life operation due to its ultra-low power consumption of 140 and 350mA in receive and transmit modes, respectively.

Designed for a long life cycle, the multiradio module is also suited for infrastructure, building and automotive implementations. The ODIN-W160 has pre-calibrated radio parameters and MAC address stored in on-board EEPROM, meaning that no trimming or tuning is required during manufacturing of customer end-devices. Operating over a temperature range from -40 to +85°C, the module supports ad-hoc, infrastructure and AP mode as well as WEP64, WEP128, WPA, WPA2 and TKIP security features.

The compact 15x22x3mm module minimises development time to implement short range wireless communications in end-devices. the ODIN-W160 offers solder castellations for visual inspection and a u.fl antenna connector with a wide selection of certified antennas. The multiradio device also provides modular radio type approvals for Europe, USA, and Canada (R&TTE, FCC, IC), EMC certification and Bluetooth qualification.

Herbert Blaser, Vice President, Short Range Radio, u-blox, commented: “u-blox’ compact ODIN-W160 module is perfect for small sensor applications in rugged environments, where faultless operation 24/7 is a requirement. With this module, u‑blox customers can shorten their product development cycle significantly by integrating a robust, certified communication solution in their IoT applications.”
