Murata has introduced what it says is the world’s smallest Radio Frequency surface mount switch connector for wireless applications. The MM8130-2600RB8 measures only 2.5 by 2.5 by 1.4mm and is designed to reliably test microwave frequencies throughout a product’s development stage up to final production. The small footprint is ideal for cellular phones, PDAs, GPS systems and measurement equipment. The SWF series is also an excellent fit for advanced devices such as Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN), WiMax, Ultra Wide Band (UWB), Bluetooth and Zigbee technologies.
In addition to its small size, the new switch connector’s test probes are compatible with the existing SWD series connectors. There is therefore no need to change test probes when transitioning to the smaller SWF series, making it easier for engineers to incorporate the connector into designs. Other key features of the switch connector include its wide operating frequency from DC to 6GHz, which covers all the popular bands, to excellent performance abilities: insertion loss is 0.1dB maximum to 3GHz and the connectors have high durability for engagement (100 cycles).

The SWF series (global part number: MM8130-2600RB8) is RoHS-compliant. Murata also offers test probes, manual probes for test and evaluation and production probes for use in automated production lines.
