AVX develops miniature wideband coupler with high directivity for wireless applications

AVX Corporation has developed a new wideband directional coupler with high directivity. Based on thin-film multilayer technology, which provides the miniature part with excellent frequency performance and rugged construction for reliable automatic assembly,

AVX’s ITF High Directivity LGA coupler features a 0402 chip size, high directivity (20dB), and a stable coupling factor (24±2dB) over a broad frequency range (700-2700MHz). Compatible with several types of high frequency wireless systems, the new coupler is ideal for applications including: mobile communications, satellite TV receivers, GPS, vehicle location systems, wireless LANs, and matching networks.

“The ultra-miniature chip size and proven thin-film technology of our new high-directivity coupler, along with the broadband stability of its frequency response, makes it an ideal design solution for wireless systems,” said Larry Eisenberger, senior marketing application engineer at AVX.

AVX’s ITF High-Directivity LGA Couplers feature an inherently low profile, excellent solderability, self-alignment during reflow, efficient heat dissipation, and a power rating of 3W. Featuring lead-free Sn100 nickel/solder coated terminations, the new couplers are compatible with automatic soldering technologies, including reflow, wave soldering, vapor phase, and manual. Rated for use from -40° to +85°C, the wideband, high-directivity couplers are also 100% tested for electrical parameters and visual characteristics.
