Christos Papakyriacou, managing director, Alpha Micro Components, said: “This solution is very much a stepping stone for customers who already have an existing system in place but want to add a simple and reliable layer of wireless comms to increase the functionality, without extra hassle or expense of implementing a redesign of their product. Demand for this product is high in both the UK and US in the current economic climate, as companies look for cost-effective wireless connectivity options for existing solutions.”
Complementing Alpha Micro’s range of wireless connectivity products, the iTegno 3832 and 3845 serial GSM/GPRS modems feature an external antenna, allowing customers to position the antenna to optimise signal quality for any given application. Measuring just 93mm x 64mm x 12mm, the 3832 and 3845 iTegno modems weigh in at just 58g and feature a RS-232 interface, which combines both the serial link and power supply through PIN 1 of the RJ45. The iTegno 3800 USB GSM/GPRS modem features an embedded internal antenna and has a USB 1.1 interface. GPRS class 10, coding scheme CS1 to CS4 offers a maximum packet switch data transmission speed of 85.6 kbps, max circuit switched (GSM CSD) data transmission of 14.4 kbps and automatic fax group (Class 1 and 2). Additionally, quad band GSM EGSM900/DCS1800/PCS1900 specifications come as standard across the full range of modems.
The iTegno 3832 and 3845 serial GSM/GPRS modems are compatible with all laptops, PCs, and industrial computers which have a serial port. The full range of modems are installed with WIN 98SE, 2000, ME or XP. Drivers for Linux and Mac OS are available for development purposes.
