Hittite Microwave Corporation has introduced two new Digital Variable Gain Amplifiers (VGA) which are ideal for automotive, broadband, cellular/3G, WiMAX/4G, test & measurement equipment and military applications between 500 MHz and 6 GHz.
The HMC742HFLP5E is a wideband digitally controlled 6-bit variable gain amplifier which operates from 500 MHz to 4 GHz and can be programmed to provide from 19 dB attenuation to 12.5 dB of gain, with 0.5 dB resolution. This Digital VGA delivers noise figure of 4 dB in its maximum gain state with output IP3 of up to +39 dBm in any state. The dual mode gain control interface is CMOS/TTL compatible and accepts either a three-wire serial input or a 6 bit parallel word. The HMC742HFLP5E also features user selectable power-up states and a serial output for cascading other Hittite serially controlled components.

The HMC625HFLP5E is a wideband digitally controlled variable gain amplifier which operates from 500 MHz to 6 GHz and can be programmed to provide anywhere from 13.5 dB attenuation to 18 dB of gain, in 0.5 dB steps. This Digital VGA delivers noise figure of 6 dB in its maximum gain state with output IP3 of up to +33 dBm in any state. The dual mode control interface is CMOS/TTL compatible and accepts either a three wire serial input or a 6 bit parallel word. The HMC625HFLP5E also features user selectable power-up states and a serial output port for cascading other Hittite serial controlled components.

The HMC742HFLP5E and HMC625HFLP5E are housed in RoHS compliant 5 x 5 mm QFN leadless packages, and require no external matching components. Samples and evaluation PC boards for all SMT packaged products are available from stock and can be ordered via the company's e-commerce site or via direct purchase order. Released data sheets are available on-line at www.hittite.com.
