GSM/GPRS module from UR

UR Group has introduced a four-band GSM/GPRS module with a sub-2mA sleep mode, 300mA in-call current, low weight and compact footprint to extend the operating envelope of embedded M2M and telematics applications. The module supports supplementary services, with SMS via GSM or GPRS, cell broadcast, and speech modes including support for basic hands-free.

The Teltonika M2 module weighs under 10g and measures 33.5mm x 38.8mm. With total height only 5.6mm including the SIM holder, the unit allows unobtrusive end products with small overall dimensions. Several features enable easy integration with the host system, including 3.5-4.2V supply range and industry-standard interfaces such as I2C and SPI, two serial ports, and two analogue inputs to an on-board ADC. A 60-pin board-to-board connector and 50Ω RF connector are also provided. The on-board SIM holder supports 1.8V and 3.3V cards.

Embedded software for the Teltonika M2 includes GSM/GPRS protocol stack release 99, SIM Application Toolkit release 99, and an integrated TCP/IP stack aiding integration with web-based applications.

The module is featured for data communication applications such as vehicle telematics for safety and security, automatic meter reading (AMR), security and surveillance systems, remote control and real-time data transmission. GPRS operation is multi-slot class 10, and Circuit Switched Data (CSD) at up to 9.6kbit/s is also supported. The module operates in 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz or 1900MHz bands, with 2W transmit power meeting class 4 requirements for EGSM in 850-900MHz bands. 1W transmit power in 1800/1900MHz bands meets class 1 output power requirements.
