Avago Technologies has announced the latest addition to its family of low-cost, easy to use, high performance Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) low noise amplifier MMIC products for use in a wide range of wireless mobile communications applications. Avago’s new miniature MGA-21108, which measures 2.5 by 2.5 by 0.55mm in an 8-pin STSLP package, is a fully integrated GaAs LNA for use in the 1.5 to 8 GHz band.

Operating at supply voltages ranging from 1.4 to 3.3V this LNA is ideal for use in low power or battery-operated applications and targets designers of mobile applications such GPS, WiFi, WiMAX, and UWB. Avago is a leading supplier of interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications.

The MGA-21108 offers a very low noise figure and high linearity performance which helps to significantly improve the sensitivity and dynamic range of the mobile receivers. Additionally, the fully matched LNA module will enable designers of wireless handsets and other hand-held communications devices to simplify their designs and help reduce their design time to market. Overall, this new LNA from Avago will allow designers to develop smaller or more compact wireless mobile communications devices.

Broadband performance of Avago’s MGA-21108 is achieved with only one external input matching component, and the power supply chokes and coupling capacitors are integrated into the device. Additionally, the MGA-21108 includes a CMOS-compatible shutdown pin that can also be used as a variable gain bias pin.
