2.4GHz transceiver enables three year battery life for HIDs

Featuring a 2Mbps data rate to speed transmitting and receiving, Cypress Semiconductor has announced 2.4GHz WirelessUSB radio-on-a-chip. The WirelessUSB NX transceiver enables up to three years of battery life for wireless mice, keyboards, trackpads, remote controls and other HIDs (Human Interface Devices).

Providing the low power consumption demanded by wireless HIDs, the transceiver operates at 900nA in sleep mode (in which HIDs are most often) and offers low active current of 12mA in transmit mode and 15mA in receive mode. According to Cypress, the NX radio offers superior performance in the presence of common 2.4GHz interference from sources such as WiFi, Bluetooth, cordless phones and microwaves.

Compatible with common RF devices currently designed into wireless HIDs, the WirelessUSB NX enables customers to reuse existing firmware to reduce development time. A ‘Received Signal Strength Indicator’ supports 5-bit reading for signal strength and 4-bit reading for noise strength, providing greater accuracy and finer control for wireless systems.

The transceiver is complemented by Cypress’s highly integrated enCoRe VI microcontroller, PSoC 4 SoC devices and complete trackpad modules for sleek and robust touch interfaces.

Supplied in an RF-tested 24-QFN package, the CYRF9935 WirelessUSB NX transceiver is available now.
