This is a lightweight, all-in-one vehicle management controller solution for next-generation mobile robotics. It supports a range of applications, including factory automation, real-time controllers, robotics, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), smart home and building devices, and agricultural equipment.
The VMU features an NXP i.MX RT1176 Crossover Microcontroller Unit (MCU) with a high-performance dual-core 1GHz Arm Cortex-M7 + 400MHz Arm Cortex-M4 processor suitable for demanding mobile robotics applications.
It also offers an integrated inertial measurement unit (IMU) with multiple sensors for motion tracking and environmental awareness.
Extensive communication options include a 2-wire 100Base-T1 Ethernet interface, USB Type-C 2.0 connector, Dronecode standard JST-GH pin header for interfaces such as I2C, SPI, RC, GPS, and other interfaces, as well as multiple high-speed UARTS for telemetry and other radios, 12 PWM outputs, and others.
The MR-VMU-RT1176 is part of NXP’s larger lineup of robotics reference designs, developed to help bring robotics designs to market more quickly and easily.
The VMU is easily integrated into open-source real-time operating systems (RTOS) and robotics frameworks, with support for Zephyr RTOS, Cognipilot, NuttX, and PX4, which is complemented by QGroundControl.
Other features include a PX4 V6X-RT (V6X-RT) compliant form factor and a modular architecture with a compute module and carrier board.
The MR-VMU-RT1176 VMU is extensible through the NXP and Dronecode robotics ecosystem, including the MR-HGK-RT drone development kit.
