Module integrates pulse oximeter & heart rate sensor
Speeding time-to-market for wearable and healthcare products, a pulse oximeter and heart rate integrated sensor module has been unveiled by Maxim Integrated Products. The MAX30102 integrated pulse oximetry and heart rate monitor module is an ultra-low power solution, operating on a single 1.8V power supply and a separate 5V power supply for the internal LEDs.
Wearable equipment for vital-sign monitoring is rapidly evolving and analogue integration is at the heart of this. SoC and integrated module solutions are rapidly replacing discrete, multicomponent designs. The MAX30102 integrates red and IR LEDs to modulate LED pulses for oxygen saturation (SpO2) and heart rate measurements.
The MAX30102 to minimise consumption. It maintains a very small solution size without sacrificing optical or electrical performance and integrates internal LEDs, photodetectors, optical elements and low-noise electronics with ambient light rejection.
Andrew Baker, Executive Director, Industrial and Healthcare Products, Maxim Integrated Products, commented: “Maxim is committed to providing innovative wearable solutions for customers. Our IP and knowledge for these applications allows us to integrate multiple technologies in a tiny, low power package.”
Operating over a temperature range from -40 to +85°C, the MAX30102 is available in a 5.6x3.3x1.55mm 14-pin optical module with prices starting at $4.13 in 1,000 unit quantities. An evaluation system with the integrated module and an accelerometer is available to enable customers to quickly evaluate the module.
