NOVOSENSE Microelectronics has announced the expansion of its digital isolator range. The new quad-channel NSI824xWx digital isolators are designed to meet the rigorous requirements of modern industrial and automotive applications.

Launched on 17th January 2024 in Shanghai, these high-reliability devices support speeds up to 150Mbps and offer protection up to 8kV.

The NSI824xWx series, certified under UL1577 for safety, is notable for its ultra-wide body design, tailored for both industrial and automotive use. These isolators excel in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and provide significant protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical fast transients (EFTs), and voltage surges. Key features include an insulation voltage of up to 8kVrms, ±8kV chip-level ESD HBM protection, and common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) of up to 200kV/μs.

Offering various channel configurations, including four forward channels, three forward plus one reverse channel, or two forward and two reverse channels, these isolators are versatile. They also feature a default output state that can be set to either low or high on power loss. The supported channel speeds of up to 150Mbps, combined with a wide input voltage range of 2.5V to 5.5V, ensure compatibility with diverse digital interfaces. Their low power consumption, at 1.5mA per channel for 1Mbps, aids in achieving system efficiency targets.

The NSI824x series utilises an adapted capacitive isolator technology. Digital signals are modulated by an RF carrier on the transmitter side and demodulated on the receiver side. This process is enhanced by NOVOSENSE's proprietary Adaptive OOK modulation technology, ensuring high noise resistance and low EMI.

These devices come in an SOWW16 package and are capable of supporting a 15mm creepage distance. Operating across a temperature range of -55℃ to 125℃, they comply with UL, CQC, CSA, and VDE safety standards. In industrial automation, they find applications in control systems, motor drives, transportation, instrumentation, and field instruments, among others. They are also suitable for automotive applications such as sensors, electric drives, power supplies, and battery management systems.
