For example, additional high reflectivity or high transmission areas, or a beam splitter function. Custom thin film polarisers can be manufactured for two or three defined wavelengths.

Polarisers optimised for 45° incident angle are more easily integrated into optical setups and are typically manufactured with an anti-reflection coating on the rear side, since the AOI does not correspond to the Brewster angle.
