Kontron has secured significant railway contracts in Ireland, Austria, and Slovenia, totalling over €100 million. These landmark agreements highlight Kontron Transportation's adeptness in rolling out mission-critical communication systems through the technological shift from GSM-R to the Future Railway Mobile Communication Systems (FRMCS).

In both Ireland and Austria, the railway contracts are pivotal for advancing the GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communication – Railway) technology within the Iarnród Éireann - Irish Rail and the ÖBB networks. These agreements ensure the sustained development and operation of railway communications in line with existing standards, pending the full adoption and deployment of FRMCS on these networks.

Kontron Transportation, together with its technology partners, delivers a GSM-R solution that not only meets present and future demands but also preserves the integrity of existing mission-critical installations, safeguarding client investments. Initiatives like the DART+ in Ireland and the project undertaken with ÖBB are reliant on the uninterrupted service and dependability of Kontron's GSM-R network.

In Slovenia, the Divača – Koper railway line, which links the port of Koper to Slovenia's and broader Europe's rail networks, will see Kontron in Slovenia collaborating with Kontron Transportation to design, test, commission, and implement GSM-R. This collaboration aims to enhance efficient and secure communication for managing railway traffic.

The system is designed to complement the existing GSM-R network across Slovenian railways, ensuring comprehensive coverage along the main and supply lines, including open tracks and tunnels.

Richard Neussl, COO of Kontron Transportation, expressed satisfaction with the fruitful collaboration and enduring relationships with their clients. He highlighted Kontron's role in shaping future communication standards, offering clients a seamless transition and coexistence between GSM-R and forthcoming mobile communication technologies. Kontron has devised a strategy to ensure the continuous availability of GSM-R maintenance and support as per the clients' requirements.
