In recent years, the automobile market has placed a great deal of importance on improving efficiency and environmental resistance performance. To perform higher-precision control, cases of assembling electronic components closer to the engine and transmission are increasing. Therefore, there is strong demand for capacitors that can be used in a high-temperature environment of 150°C. To meet this demand, Murata has developed a product that achieves X8L characteristics by optimizing the resin external electrode.
Furthermore, there are cases where capacitors are mounted on a lead frame*2 in order to achieve size and weight reduction of the devices. As a result, there is the need for capacitors with a fail-safe function to prevent short-circuit even when bending stress is applied to these devices. The resin absorbs mechanical stress when a circuit board is bent and the mechanical strength can be improved by using resin for the electrodes.

Terminology
*1 X8L characteristics:
Characteristics that provide a capacitance variation of +15/-40% in the range between -55°C and 150°C.
*2 Lead frame:
Used in a semiconductor package such as an IC. This is a component that secures the semiconductor chip and connects the chip to external wiring.
