The availability of a new line of Mil-COTS of half-brick transient EMI filters has been launched by Luso Electronics Distribution. Designed and manufactured to comply with a wide range of military standards, the filters also meet the requirements of DEF STAN 61-5 Part 6 Issue 6, which deals with 12V vehicle systems as well as the 24/28V systems commonly used in military vehicles.
The standard enables engineers to develop standard products that meet the requirements of both architectures.

The MCOTS-F-28-T-HT series implements SynQor’s field-proven technology and manufacturing expertise to the industrial power application market. In addition, SynQor’s innovative packaging ensures survivability in hostile environments. Compatible with the industry-standard format, the filters have high differential-mode and common-mode attenuation, low DC resistance, and a stabilizing bulk capacitor resistor. The filters, when combined with Mil-COTS DC-DC converters, are designed to comply with MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1275, RTCA/DO-160, DEF-STAN 61-5 and MIL-STD-461 for a 28V system.

Rated to handle 30A output current, electrical characteristics of the family include –40 to +40V input voltage; very low DC resistance; and greater than 80dB differential-mode attenuation and 36dB common-mode attenuation at 250kHz. Other features of the device include transient-suppression circuitry to block voltage surges and spikes; soft-start circuitry to limit in-rush charging currents; reverse polarity protection with a low-loss synchronous rectifier; output power limit for short-circuit protection; on/off pass-through circuitry; and standby circuitry to minimize quiescent power draw.

The transient EMI filter units are now available for purchase from Luso for evaluation and qualification.
