Laird Technologies, Inc will showcase its industry-leading remote controls later this month. These products are designed to enhance railroad safety and efficiency for locomotives and can be used in railcar movers, over-head cranes, and a variety of material handling, mobile and agricultural equipment.
With more than 65 years of experience in radio frequency products, Laird will showcase its technology at the American Short Line & Regional Railroad Association’s (ASLRRA) Annual Convention, April 28 – 30, 2013, at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, Georgia. Laird will exhibit at booth #1305.

Laird’s Wireless Automation and Control (WACS) division will showcase several products for the rail and locomotive industry including Accuspeed™, the company’s most advanced technology for safe and efficient speed-based remote control locomotive operation.

The system allows the operator to set the desired direction and speed, while the advanced on-board Locomotive Control Unit applies the right amount of throttle or brake to maintain speed. Accuspeed™ also features CattronConnect, web-based monitoring and diagnostics software for locomotives.

“We know safety, efficiency and productivity are important to rail operators,” said Jim Kingerski, Laird director of sales. “Our products focus on improving these, and ASLRRA allows us an opportunity to showcase this to the industry professionals responsible for operating and maintaining 30 percent of the American railroad industry’s route mileage.”

Laird will also display the QC – Quick Connect system, a standardized interchangeable portable control system, designed to interface with locomotives equipped with American Association of Railroads (AAR) standard Multiple Unit (MU) connections, to control more than one locomotive at an operating facility.

This year’s ASLRRA convention and exhibition celebrates the 100th anniversary of the association. The event brings together professionals from the short line and regional railroad industry with an interest in furthering their railroad education and improving their skill set. The convention will include an exhibition with over 200 companies showcasing top products and services for the industry along with networking opportunities and 30 breakout sessions for industry professionals.

Laird’s Wireless Systems division continues to develop technologies and capabilities that make a wirelessly connected world possible. Laird Technologies’ Wireless Automation and Control Solutions have helped prevent serious injury, while increasing efficiency and productivity by allowing the operator to move to a safer, more efficient location.
