Motorists concerned by the rise in the theft of cars with keyless car entry systems can sleep easier from this week as Ganvol launches its keyless key fob protector. This Ganvol Faraday Box S1 is a fob protector and signal blocker to stop car thieves in their tracks, manufactured to high precision from the same grade aluminium used to make high end laptops.

According to the Association of British Insurers, claims for car theft hit an eight year high in 2019 - a fact which it attributed in part to rising levels of keyless car theft.

More than 300 cars are stolen per day in the UK, which is an average of one vehicle every five minutes. With research by the consumer group Which? discovering that some new model cars can be stolen in just 10 seconds from the homeowner’s driveway, protecting keyless cars is more pressing than ever.

Car thieves typically use a relay transmitter and amplifier to pick up the key signal from the keyless fob in the home. That signal is then boosted and sent to the car by the transmitter, instructing the car to unlock its doors.

Depending on the model of car, thieves can complete this whole process in under 30 seconds. The Ganvol Faraday Box S1 provides comprehensive protection from this threat by shielding the fob’s signal. The sturdy, robust box is compatible with all European cars and has an ergonomic aluminium design which can be easily opened and closed with one hand. Once placed inside, the key fob’s signal can’t be intercepted, amplified or spoofed.

Tim Song, Ganvol Product Manager said: “Keyless car theft is on the rise. While the keyless system is more secure in theory, criminals can exploit that technology and steal a car in just 10 seconds by amplifying the signal from the key. Buying a more expensive car doesn’t make the vehicle immune, in fact it has been proven that vehicles including the Audi TT RS Roadster, BMW X3 xDriv 20i M Sport and Land Rover Discovery SD6 306 HSE can all be stolen in under half a minute.“

"Our intelligently designed key protector is the best defence against keyless car thieves. The fabric car signal blocking bags don’t work - with just a few uses the delicate internal protective fabric can be damaged and the bag torn, rendering it useless. That means continually having to replace, making it much more expensive than a single aluminium box.

"The Ganvol Faraday Box S1 is designed for daily use with a tough aluminium shell to provide robust protection. We know that some car owners store their keys in a tin box, this is more stylish, higher tech, mobile solution.”

The Ganvol Faraday Box S1 comes with a one year warranty and is available in black and silver, priced at £34.99.
