Juice, manufacturer of charging stations and software is the recipient of the 2022/2023 GreenTech Award for Innovation in the category of transportation.

The GreenTech Award is given to companies and research institutes whose inventiveness and ingenuity demonstrably contribute to environmental protection. New marketable ideas and patents devised by such trailblazing organisations have the potential to delay or even reverse climate change. Juice impressed the jury with its innovative strength, and the decision to present Juice with the GreenTech Award was based, in particular, on the company’s recently registered patents for new developments.

“This award is a great honour for Juice, and it confirms that we are very much on the right path. It was always our aim to develop our product and technology innovations with a consistent focus on sustainability,” proclaimed a proud Christoph Erni, the CEO and Founder of Juice.

Of over 600,000 companies, only 323 made it onto the shortlist for the GreenTech Award and, ultimately, only those organisations attaining an above-average score in at least one technological field emerged victorious.

Innovation means rethinking established ideas, challenging the status quo and using resources to bring about progress. From the outset, Juice has always developed from the user’s perspective, which has allowed the company to enrich the market with a number of technological innovations. This inventiveness in the area of mobility has now been recognised by the Swiss Institute for Quality Testing (SIQT) in the form of the GreenTech Award for Innovation.

This accolade recognises the outstanding innovation of companies in one of eight technological fields that are crucial to environmental and climate protection. The rating of each candidate is based on the number of patents. This is because patents represent official proof of an intellectual achievement that is worthy of protection. They thus serve as a verifiable, objective basis for assessment and clearly demonstrate that an innovative solution concept has been created.

Integrated charging solution as an entry point to e-mobility

Integrated charging solutions, which lower the threshold to electromobility for all users, are a fundamental prerequisite for successful mobility transformation. As Erni explained: “Our ambition is for vehicle charging to be as automatic and simple as it is for mobile phones: We want it to be a basic, mundane part of everyday life. Yet to get to a point where the technical equipment goes virtually unnoticed by the user, we require highly sophisticated technology and a great deal of experience. And therein lies the paradox. We thus strive to perfect our products until hardware and software are effectively cast from the same mould. Our mission is to further the proliferation of electromobility. After all, the faster it establishes itself, the sooner we can rid ourselves of the many problems associated with fossil fuels.”

Switzerland as a centre of innovation and technology

Switzerland has established itself as an innovative centre of technology. It is not for nothing that the country accounts for more patent applications per million inhabitants than any other nation. Many SMEs operate in niche markets, in which they have attained world-leading status with their high-tech products boasting the familiar Swiss hallmarks of high precision, unrivalled quality and timeless design. They develop elegant solutions to tackle the relevant challenges of our time. Be it in the field of sustainable mobility or the resource-efficient production and usage of energy: Technical innovations must have a positive impact on our environment and make the world a safer, healthier and, ultimately, better place to live.

Juice devices open the door to more sustainable mobility. They are highly resistant to environmental influences and their robustness makes them extremely durable. Their retrofit and update capability allows them to adapt to ever-changing requirements, while their carbon footprint is offset with tree-planting initiatives. Thanks to Juice solutions, anyone can easily charge with electricity that is drawn from guaranteed green sources at the same time as consumption.

About the GreenTech Award

The 'GreenTech Award 2022/23' is given to companies who have distinguished themselves with their outstanding innovation in one of eight technological fields of crucial relevance to environmental and climate protection. With patents chosen as the 'unit of measure' for the awards, each candidate was given a score based on the classification codes of the International Patent Classification (IPC) system defined by the OECD. Using these special IPC codes, the patents submitted by and granted to Swiss companies were determined for the assessment period 2020/21.

This basic parameter of the number of patents per technological field was combined with the qualitative factor of the citation frequency to produce an aggregate score. Regardless of any jury preferences, zeitgeist variations or product trends, patents are a clear expression of inventiveness, serve as official proof of an intellectual achievement that is worthy of protection and objectively demonstrate the creation of an innovative solution approach.

Out of over 600,000 companies, only 323 made it onto the shortlist for the GreenTech Award and, in the end, only those organisations attaining an above-average score in at least one technological field emerged victorious. Juice was honoured in the transportation category, specifically “climate change technologies related to transportation”. This year, a total of 103 companies from a wide range of economic sectors were presented with the GreenTech Award.
