Featuring an integrated e-shield for the reduction of EMI, an automotive-grade inductor in a 4040 case size has been released by Vishay Intertechnology. The IHLE-4040DC-5A contains the electric field associated with EMI in a tin-plated copper integrated shield, providing up to -20dB of electric field reduction at 1cm when the integrated shield is connected to ground.

By integrating an e-shield for the reduction of EMI, the device removes the need for separate board-level shielding, lowering costs and saving board space. Extra vibration performance for under-the-hood and chassis-mounted electronic circuits is provided by the four-terminal connection.

The AEC-Q200-qualified inductor operates up to a temperature of +155°C and has terminal coplanarity of less than or equal to 100µm. The IHLE-4040DC-5A is, therefore, suitable for energy storage in DC/DC converters and high-current filtering for automotive engine and transmission control units, diesel injection drivers, noise suppression for motors, windshield wipers, power mirrors and seats, and HID lighting.

The device, which is built on Vishay's IHLP technology, features high efficiency with maximum DCR from 1.66 to 178mΩ, and a wide range of inductance values from 0.47 to 47µH. The IHLE-4040DC-5A provides rated currents to 30A, and handles high transient current spikes without saturation. Offering high resistance to thermal shock, moisture, mechanical shock, and vibration, the inductor is packaged in an RoHS-compliant, 100% lead (Pb)-free shielded construction.

The IHLE-4040DC-5A is available now in both sample and production quantities.
