TE is supplying one transformer downlead cable and a pantograph cable for each motorised car, as well as air feed insulators, which ensure electrical isolation of the pantographs’ hydraulic components.
High voltage cable assemblies onboard trains are engineered for complete reliability over a long life despite mechanical shock and vibration, and exposure to extreme environmental conditions on the exterior of train carriages.
Bombardier has previously specified TE’s high voltage cable assemblies onboard Aventra trains for London Overground and Crossrail.
“TE’s high voltage engineering specialists worked closely with Bombardier, lending our technical support and advice early in the design and engineering phase to ensure TE components met their requirements,” said Wesley Gilbert, TE Connectivity’s Head of Strategy and Business Development for rail.
Greater Anglia is replacing its entire fleet with 111 Bombardier Aventra trains and 58 Stadler FLIRT trains. As a supplier to both train manufacturers, all of Greater Anglia’s new trains will be equipped with TE’s roofline equipment.
