Designed to handle demanding automotive conditions, the GT8E series internal wire-to-board or wire-to-wire interface connector has been released by Hirose. Featuring a 2.0mm pitch, the connector provides a high pin count in a small footprint.

Available in a wide variety of versions including wire-to-board and wire-to-wire; single or double row; right angle, and straight, in-line plug, as well as SMT or through-hole soldering, the device is suitable for use in ECUs, inverters and battery chargers within automotive systems. To meet a wide range of application requirements, the connector is available from 2-position single row modules to 24-position dual row modules.

The GT8E connector features reliable crimp contact connections, pin-in-paste metal fittings that improve PCB retention force and a highly reliable positive lock latching structure featuring a clear tactile click, allowing it to perform well in harsh automotive environments. With these features, the connector can withstand thermal shock, vibration, high temperature and sulphur dioxide exposure.

Operating across a temperature range of -40 to +125°C, the device has a rated voltage of 250VAC and rated current of 3A with a 20-22AWG wire or 1A with a 24-28AWG wire. The GT8E connector features a maximum contact resistance of 30mΩ and a minimum insulation resistance of 100MΩ at 500VDC.

In addition to automotive ECUs, inverters and battery systems, the unsealed connector is also well suited for smart grid devices, servo motors, mounting equipment and robotic applications.

"The GT8E series connector offers the highest pin count in the smallest footprint versus previously available products on the market," said Rick van Weezel, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Hirose Electric USA. "Combining a robust design and high performance capability, the GT8E family of unsealed connectors is especially desirable for use inside inverter and battery systems in hybrid EVs."
