Broadcom has announced a GNSS chip for IoT and wearable devices. The advanced chip enables devices such as fitness bands to deliver pinpoint location while consuming minimal power and in some cases can eliminate the need for a separate MCU.

Broadcom has introduced the next-generation of its widely deployed mid-range cable and IPTV STB SoC devices. The upgraded chips now integrate the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) to provide up to a 50% reduction in bandwidth for similar video quality, allowing operators to leverage huge bandwidth cost savings as they migrate to cloud based all-IP video delivery. 

Three DOCSIS 3.1-based devices for Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP) equipment have been released by Broadcom. The BCM3047, BCM31442 and BCM3222 enable CCAP vendors to build and deploy DOCSIS 3.1-compliant equipment that supports multiple Gigabit cable broadband speeds over coax to deliver new content and services to home subscribers.

Broadcom has announced AIR-IQ, claimed to be the industry's fastest and most accurate spectrum management technology for enterprise 5G WiFi access points. AIR-IQ allows OEMs to design enterprise access points, particularly for high-density environments, with advanced WLAN air management capabilities to ensure a reliable WiFi experience.

A DOCSIS-compatible 10G Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) residential gateway reference design has been introduced by Broadcom. The platform allows cable MSOs to provide multi-Gigabit speeds for home subscribers' VoD, HD IPTV, VoIP and high-speed Internet via a FTTH solution. 

A scalable 10G/25G/40G/50G Ethernet controller product family has been introduced by Broadcom. The BCM57300 NetXtreme C-series delivers the industry's lowest power and smallest package 25/50G solution for the Cloud data centre market. With this introduction, the company further extends its end-to-end portfolio and reinforces its commitment to meeting the current and future needs of Cloud-scale data centres.

A series of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreements with several Chinese companies, including H3C, Inspur and StarTimes, has been announced by Broadcom. The signing of these agreements at Broadcom's annual Asia Media Summit reflect the company's ongoing commitment to expand strategic relationships in the region and drive further innovation in home entertainment and the digital home.

A Ultra High Definition (Ultra HD) home gateway and STB which increase 4K video decode efficiency for a 25% reduction in video bandwidth usage has been introduced by Broadcom. Featuring VP9p60 decode support, the BCM7445S allows operators to introduce Ultra HD features such as 60fps content on YouTube, four HD picture-in-picture options and faster performance in graphics-rich user interfaces.

Broadcom has announced the world's first DOCSIS 3.1 cable STB reference design. The company's BCM93390VMS52 provides global cable system operators and OEMs with a powerful all-in-one cable subscriber experience that combines data delivery at speeds of up to 5Gb/s, support for 4K/Ultra HD video decoding and multi-Gigabit WiFi home networking.

A satellite STB solution that delivers a boost in performance, lower power and support for the latest DVB-S2X broadcast standard has been released by Broadcom. The BCM45308 SoC device integrates Full Band Capture (FBC) technology to provide satellite operators with more efficient video and IP service distribution to subscribers' connected devices throughout the home.

A widely deployed protocol for contactless ticketing, transportation and access applications, the MIFARE from Broadcom, has been licensed. With this adoption, Broadcom supports a growing set of NFC and related payment applications in mobile phones, tablets and wearable devices.

Broadcom has introduced a family of integrated SoCs that add HD HEVC for hybrid cable, DBS, terrestrial and IP STBs, to be displayed at Broadcast Asia, Singapore, 2nd to 5th June 2015. The single-chip, pin-compatible devices enable operators and broadcasters in emerging markets to easily migrate to the latest, high-efficiency video compression standard, realising up to 50% savings in video bandwidth.

An eight-stream 5G WiFi router platform, claimed to be the fastest in the market, has been released by Broadcom. The second generation 5G WiFi XStream MU-MIMO platform delivers an unrivalled 5.4Gb/s of total WiFi data rates. 

Claimed to be the industry's lowest-power GbE switch for home gateways, small business switch systems and wireless router applications, the BCM53134 has been introduced by Broadcom. The device enables OEMs and ODMs to meet European Code of Conduct and stricter energy efficiency requirements for broadband routers and gateways. 

Broadcom has announced that KT Skylife has deployed the world's first Ultra HD STB built on Broadcom's single chip HEVC 4K/Ultra HD satellite solution, the BCM7376. Based on the highly integrated features of the chip, KT Skylife can now deliver Ultra HD content directly to subscribers' homes with the performance and picture quality needed for a truly immersive multi-screen entertainment experience.

A Bluetooth Smart SoC that enables twice the data rates over a Bluetooth Smart link has been released by Broadcom. The BCM20706, which expands the company’s Wireless Internet Connectivity for Embedded Devices (WICED) family, extends the battery life of IoT devices. 

Broadcom has announced that its Wireless Internet Connectivity for Embedded Devices (WICED) SDK now offers full HomeKit support. The company is the first to meet HomeKit technical specifications for WiFi and Bluetooth Smart. 

A family of 5G WiFi Wave 2 solutions, designed to deliver the quality, reliability and capacity required for all segments of the enterprise and cloud WLAN markets, has been released by Broadcom. The solutions include the BCM43465, a 4x4 11ac MU-MIMO, and the BCM43525, a 3x3 11ac MU-MIMO. 

Broadcom has announced that it is has received NAGRA NOCS3 certification for HEVC and Ultra HD STB SoCs, supporting the latest in content protection and ensuring the delivery of premium content and services to multiple TVs and devices in the home. Broadcom has achieved NAGRA's next-gen security certification on several chips in its HEVC-enabled device portfolio.

Optimised to meet the bandwidth, scalability and efficiency demands of 10GbE virtualised data centres, the Trident-II+ series of Ethernet switches has been released by Broadcom. The highly integrated devices, which expand the company’s StrataXGS Trident portfolio, offer 1.28Tb/s switching performance, 30% lower power and double the performance for data centre virtualisation overlays, such as VXLAN.
