Dialog Semiconductor delivers critical system power management for tablets based on the next generation Intel Atom processors

Dialog Semiconductor announced today that Intel Corporation and Dialog have expanded their collaboration for the development of a single-chip power management IC (PMIC) to deliver new solutions. Together with the next generation Intel Atom processor, codename “Bay Trail”, this PMIC delivers outstanding battery life for tablet designs, a critical factor in consumer product choice.

Dialog’s DA6021 PMIC was optimised to be a system power management device on Intel’s reference design vehicle: an “open bench top” customer reference board/kit for test, measurement and software development as well as an enclosed form-factor reference design that requires minimal additional hardware to complete the rapid development of tablet computers.

Dr Jalal Bagherli, CEO of Dialog, commented, “The tablet market represents an exciting growth opportunity and we’re delighted to be working with Intel in delivering a vital component for the energy-friendly next generation Intel Atom platform. The performance and energy-efficiency gains that we expect Intel’s next generation processor will bring to tablets are complemented perfectly by the system-level power management capabilities of our PMIC, which has been designed to operate with both the processor and its peripherals.

“Battery life is one of the major factors that determine consumer choice in this product category and the goal of our close collaboration with Intel has been to make the resulting products best-in-class in this respect,” concluded Bagherli.

“We are pleased to work with Dialog to enable their power management solution for Intel’s Bay Trail platform,” said Steve Smith, Intel VP and director of Tablet Platform Development. “Dialog’s expertise in highly integrated, mixed signal analog components provides a valuable contribution, delivering competitive, energy-efficient next generation Atom-based tablets to the market.”
