Semrock Patents Confirmed Following Reexamination

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has confirmed the validity of four key Semrock patents that were subject to a series of reexamination requests. This rigorous review bolsters the intellectual property of Semrock, Inc., and reconfirms Semrock’s patent rights to classes of edge filters, laser-line filters, notch filters, and broadband mirrors.

Approximately one year ago, attorneys for a third-party filed reexamination requests challenging the validity of Semrock patents covering classes of its RazorEdge® filters and its MaxLine® laser-line clean-up filters for Raman spectroscopy, its StopLine® deep notch filters for fluorescence, Raman, and other laser applications, and its MaxMirror® ultrabroadband laser mirrors*.

Following analysis of the material submitted by the third-party and Semrock, the USPTO has confirmed the validity of all of the patent claims identified in the reexam requests, thereby confirming—under rigorous review—the intellectual property utilized by Semrock as a technology leader in optical filters. Semrock has already been awarded reexamination certificates for two of the patents by the USPTO, and notices of “Intent to Issue Ex Parte Reexamination Certificates” for the remaining two patents, dated December 16, 2010, have been issued as well.

Semrock’s industry-leading and proprietary hard-coated optical filter manufacturing processes ensure permanent performance with “no burn-out” even under the most intense illumination conditions. Semrock filters are available from stock for same-day shipment with a 30-day no-hassle return policy and are covered under the company’s five-year warranty. Custom-sized filters are available in under a week.

* US Patent Nos. 7,068,430, 7,119,960, 7,123,416, and 6,894,838, respectively.
