Link Microtek awarded 4-year support contract by MoD

The UK MoD has awarded Link Microtek with a 4-year contract for the provision of spares, repairs and other support services from the company’s Azdec mobile infra-red communications system. Various ships within the Royal Navy fleet have installed the Azdec system on board, which provides secure, short-range voice communications, wire-free, giving personnel the freedom to roam unhindered from their base positions.

A number of fixed infra-red antennas, operators’ belt-mounted battery packs/control units, a choice of headsets and a central battery-charger unit, all a part of the robustly constructed system, which consists of a compact base station.

Under the new arrangement the various items to be supplied are expected to include; replacement battery packs and additional headsets, and the prices of all equipment and services will be fixed for the 4-year term of the contract.

Link Microtek’s managing director, Steve Cranstone, quoted: “We are very pleased to have signed this agreement because it enables us to deal direct with the MoD, rather than working through a third party. Not only will we be able to provide the Royal Navy with a much improved service, but the procurement process will also be more efficient and cost-effective for the MoD.”

The Azdec system presents no health or EMC hazard and fully satisfies the MoD’s TEMPEST requirements due to the Employment of low-level infra-red digital encoding technology.
