Dual 0.5 Ohm switches from Intersil eliminate need for negative supply

Intersil has introduced dual 0.5 Ohm SPST and SPDT switches featuring single supply, negative signal handling, and audio click-and-pop elimination. The combination of features and capabilities makes the ISL54062/63/64/65 series an ideal choice for battery-powered handheld products, consumer audio equipment and portable test/measurement and medical devices.

The ISL54062 is a dual 0.5 Ohm SPDT switch featuring low ON-resistance and low-voltage operation, with negative signal handling on signal inputs. It operates from a single +1.8V to +6.5V supply and passes signals that swing a maximum of 6.5V below the positive supply rail. The ISL54062 and other members of the series – the ISL54063 and ISL54064 – incorporate Intersil’s click-and-pop circuitry. The ISL54065 is designed to enable users to digitally select click-and-pop elimination and also to open circuit all switches, if desired.

The switches provide a low-loss, low-distortion capability for AC coupled or DC coupled bipolar signal sources using only a single positive supply rail, which eliminates the need for a negative supply. This enables the devices to pass a 2Vrms signal, standard in many consumer audio products, using only a positive 3V supply. Switching speeds of tON = 55ns, tOFF = 18ns guarantee fast ‘break before make’ operation. Power consumption is an ultra low 20nA; bandwidth is 35MHz; and crosstalk is -95dB at 100kHz. ESD protection of >6kV on all pins assures robustness, an important feature when the devices are being used on connector interfaces. The switches also include excellent R-on flatness, to ensure minimal signal distortion. Failsafe power-off protection eliminates the risk that external sources will inadvertently turn on the switch.

The ISL54062/63/64 are available in compact, space-saving 3 x 3mm 10-lead TDFN and 10-lead 1.8mm x 1.4mm uTQFN packages. The ISL54065 comes in a 12-lead 2.2 x 1.4mm uTQFN.
