XP’s compact encapsulated COTS DC/DC converters offer wide input range

XP Power has announced the MTC75 and MTC150 series of board-mounted encapsulated DC/DC converters for military applications. The two models, 75 and 150 Watt variants, are available with single or dual outputs in a compact package measuring 61 x 57.9 x 17.3 mm (2.4 x 2.28 x 0.68 inches). As COTS products, they are normally available from stock and are priced more competitively than traditional military specified specification power supplies.

The MTC75 and MTC150 meet MIL-STD 704B-F with no extra components – further reducing board space requirements, system size and costs. With the addition of XP Power’s standard EMI filter modules (DSF and FSO series) they also comply with MIL-STD 704 A-F and MIL-STD 1275A-D for EMI /immunity and MIL-STD 461F for conducted emissions and susceptibility. In addition, the converters meet MIL-STD 810F environmental standards.

Nominal input voltage is 28VDC. However, the input can range from +10 to + 40 VDC, allowing end-equipment to operate from a 12 VDC source, such as in SUV vehicles used for homeland security, or 28 VDC, as used in most military platforms. Single output models are available in +3.3, +5, +12, +15 or +28 VDC outputs. Dual output models provide +/- 12 or +/-15 VDC.

Control and signal pins provide the ability to inhibit output, provide thermal warning and converter shutdown, and synchronise converter frequency to an external source in the 400 – 500 KHz range. An output trim function allows the adjustment of output rails +/- 10% of the nominal output voltage.

Up to four converter modules can be used in parallel by connecting their share pins.
The modules are available now from XP Power.
