“The ADP1850 offers more versatility, performance, and integration than other DC-to-DC switching controllers available and provides a simpler approach for reliable system power-up sequencing,” said Laurence McGarry, marketing manager, Power Management Products Group, Analog Devices. “Designers can easily leverage the ADP1850’s performance and flexibility over a number of different platforms, applications and designs without re-qualifying new devices.”
The ADP1850 controller’s high-level of integration includes a start-up linear regulator and a boot-strap diode for the high-side drive, which is ideal for high-density designs.
The new DC-to-DC switching controller can be synchronised to an external clock to eliminate system beat frequencies between converters that can sometimes result in audible noise. The ADP1850 operates in current mode for improved transient response and uses valley-current sensing for enhanced noise immunity. The ADP1850’s advanced architecture enables accurate current sharing between interleaved phases for high-current outputs up to 50 A. For low-load operation, the ADP1850 can be configured to operate in power-saving mode by skipping pulses and reducing switching losses to improve the energy efficiency at light load. Additional flexibility is provided by externally programmable loop compensation, soft start and frequency, current limit and current-sense gain settings.
Key Features and Benefits
* Dual output (up to 2 x 25 A) and single interleaved output (up to 50 A) enables increased re-use and greater design flexibility.
* A wider input voltage range is ideal for 3.3 V to 12 V input systems.
* Accurate current share between phases allows the ADP1850 to operate in interleaved mode and provide current and thermal balance between phases.
* Integrated tracking and sequencing capability ensures reliable power-up with fewer components.
* Power-saving mode improves efficiency at light loads and standby mode.
* Synchronisation input eliminates system beat frequencies with 180 degrees phase shifted minimises input ripple current.
* A high level of integration including start-up linear regulator and the boot-strap diode for the high-side drive in a small 32 LFCSP 5 mm x 5 mm package enables higher density designs.
