Synchronous buck DC/DC regulators increase efficiency in standby mode

Efficiency in standby mode is increased by up to 6% in the AOZ6682CI and AOZ6683CI synchronous DC/DC buck regulators, says Alpha and Omega Semiconductor.

The 18V, 2.0 and 3.0A EZBuck AOZ6682CI and AOZ6683CI deliver 2.0A and 3.0A output current, respectively. Both devices are available in a thin, thermally enhanced TSOT23-6 package.

The have a low resistance synchronous buck power stage that enables up to 95% efficiency and achieve 10° C cooler operation at full load compared to similar competing devices, the company claims. Under heavy load conditions, they operate in a fixed frequency continuous-conduction mode (CCM) and at light loads or in standby mode, they employ a proprietary pulse energy mode (PEM) control scheme, which, combined with a low quiescent current of 200µA, allows the regulators to achieve industry-leading efficiencies of 89% at light loads.

They are suitable for consumer equipment, LCD TVs, set-top boxes, high definition Blu-ray disc players and networking terminals, which are required to achieve less than 0.5W in standby power consumption.

The AOZ6682CI and the AOZ6683CI are immediately available in production quantities with a lead time of 12 weeks.
